Sang Bok Lee is an innovative artist that creates dynamic and rich artwork. The following is a statement from the artist regarding her work:
"In recent years most of my paintings have been developed by using modally abstracted images. These images have been developed from my traditional value of Nature which is based on the far Eastern Asian culture. I believe that I have developed a style which is unique for producing these abstract images using Hanji, a Korean traditional paper that has several hundred years of history.
Through looking to the intrinsic nature within, I find inspiration. The inspiration comes to me as a more principally and ultimately sublimated world which controls the value of invisible things which are beyond consciousness rather than physically visible things. I love those lyrically abstract images of Nature and human relationships such as the cosmic dual forces, and love between human beings.
To arrive at these images, I try to purify my own daily and complicated emotions and listen to the subtle sound and rhythm of the Cosmos and the throb of life. I show the meeting of myself and the universe in the painting. This kind of meeting between us conforms to the traditional value which sacrifices artificial will in order to assimilate the self with the universe.
My feelings are expressed in the delicately spreading colors and the creation of textures, and spiritual contemplation is expressed on my canvas.
I want to enjoy my abstract images with some calm feelings of serenity."
